Despite late-breaking news today that Councilman Mike Gallagher is no longer supporting Capitol Park's move to McAllister Park, our rally for support is still on for this evening as scheduled. Councilman Gallagher is committed to helping Capitol Park find a new location for our ball fields and all help and support at this evening's rally are appreciated. Looking forward to seeing everyone this evening @ 6 PM. Thank you.
Dear Capitol Park Little League supporters,
We have begun a major capital campaign effort to secure a new $8m home for our almost 500+ Capitol Park Little League families. We have been working closely with our landowner and partner, Zachry, in firming up land selection that best fits our financial model, by requesting $2m on the 2017 City Bond, and involved fundraiser consultants that will help us reach our goal. The piece of land that was initially designated as the new site for CPLL, and vetted through the city in a $1 a year lease, has been met with heavy resistance from McAllister Park and "The Friends of McAllister Park". This is a group of mountain bikers and environmentalist who want to preserve the park as is, claiming our new facility will cannibalize 6 miles of the existing 26+ miles of bike trails. Since McAllister Park Little League already resides on the park land, this group is rallying and petitioning in an effort to keep us from building on the park land. They are even requesting that the $2m city bond money we originally asked for should go to them instead.
A support rally for Capitol Park is scheduled for Tuesday, October 11th at 6 PM. It is crucial that we show up in masses. We're asking for the entire CPLL family (current families, parents, grandparents, coaches, kids, alumni, other District 19 Little League organizations, and other organizations we partner with), Councilman Gallagher and his staff, the full media, and Zachry to be in attendance. In the meantime, we need to flood the emails below with our concerns. I am sure I am speaking for the entire Capitol Park Little League family when I say I don’t want to see this league go away. Let’s fight for these kids!
Please contact the individuals below, showing your support of our endeavor:
